In the census of 6 June 1841 in Holbeach Marsh, Holbeach, Lincolnshire, he was listed as the son of Thomas Edward Savage.3 John Francis Savage was co-accused and entered in the register of all persons charged with Indictable Offences at the Assizes and Sessions held within the County of Lincoln during the Year 1858 He, his Brother John Francis SAVAGE, Isaac COOKE and John COLEMAN appeared at the General Quarter Sessions Spalding on the 7th January 1858 at Spalding charged with "Assault on a Constable in the execution of his duty" and Acquited with recorded "Not Guilty."4
John married Lydia Ann Grundy, daughter of Stephen Grundy and Rebecca (?), on 31 October 1860 in Holbeach, Lincolnshire.5
