     William Savage was born in 1834 in Holbeach, Lincolnshire.1
In the census of 6 June 1841 at Holbeach Union Workhouse, Holbeach, Lincolnshire, an inmate.2 The Clerk read a letter from a police officer at Swaffham announcing the apprehension of two boys named William Savage and George Sanchard who escaped from the workhouse on thursday last :- ordered that the assistant overseer have directions to proceed to Swaffham, fetch the boys back and take them before a Magistrate to be dealt with according to the Law.3
