Last Edited=23 Jun 2017
Eleanor (Ellie) Grace Pask née Harris
(1937-2015)
Eleanor Grace HARRIS was born on 16 October 1937 a Red Cross outpost hospital, Long Lac, Ontario, Canada. Her parents were Sidney & Grace HARRIS née KNIGHT.1 Eleanor Grace's nickname was Ellie.1
Ellen married William Arnold PASK, son of Clarence George PASK and Daisy Mae SUTTON, on 4 March 1966 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.2
Her husband, William, died on 6 June 2003 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 66.3,4,5
She was mentioned in her husband's obituary in the North Bay Nugget, North Bay, Ontario, Canada on 10 June 2003.5
Eleanor died on 8 March 2015 in Campbell House Hospice, Collingwood, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 77.1,6 Her funeral service was held at All Saints' Anglican Church, Collingwood, Ontario, Canada on 13 March 2015.1
Her obituary was detailed in the Collingwood Enterprise Bulletin, Collingwood, Ontario, Canada on 13 March 2015, it read:
PASK, Eleanor (Ellie) Grace (née Harris) - Died peacefully at Campbell House Hospice, in Collingwood, after a short illness. She is greatly missed by her children: son Andrew, daughter Elizabeth and dog Barclay. Born to parents Sidney and Grace (née Knight) in a Red Cross outpost hospital in Long Lac, Ontario, Eleanor spent her early years in North Bay before graduating, in 1959, from the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto. Over the next two decades, she worked at the hospital, first as a head nurse, and then as coordinator of nursing education and finally as head of nursing research. During this same period, she earned a BScN and MScN at the University of Toronto. In 1991, Eleanor completed a doctorate, having turned her attention to the ethics of care in nursing. Shortly thereafter, she took a position as Executive Director of Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation. Over next decade, she built the organization from a small initiative to one of national significance. In 2001 she returned to the academic setting, this time as a professor of nursing at York University where her special focus was transcultural care and nursing ethics. In 2006, following the death of her husband, photographer William Pask, Eleanor moved to Collingwood. She continued her teaching at York and Georgian College, and also served on several local Boards and committees. She was particularly active with the Hospice Georgian Triangle, All Saints Anglican Church, the Craigleith Museum Committee and a number of other initiatives ("she didn't do pressed flowers" noted one long-time friend). Over the course of her professional career, Eleanor sought to strengthen the care of chronically ill children and their families through research and education. She published and presented nationally and internationally. In addition to her professional work, she held a lifelong passion for nature, canoeing, chamber music, guitar and woodworking. At the time of her death, she was crafting a book on "her two buddies," Aristotle and Kant. She was also working to establish a pet cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Hospice Georgian Triangle would be appreciated. A celebration of life will be held at All Saints Anglican Church, 32 Elgin St., Collingwood, ON, on Thursday, March 12 from 7:00-9:00pm. A funeral service will be held at the church on Friday, March 13th at 1:00pm.1
