Mary died on 14 September 1902 in Café Monico, Piccadilly Circus, Westminster, London, at the age of 41.8,9
An account of her death was reported in the Nottingham Evening Post on 2 October 1902. It read:
STRANGE DEATH AT A LONDON CAFE. At the Westminster Coroner's Court, London, yesterday, an inquiry was held into the death of Mary Pask, aged 42 years, manageress of the buffet, at the Café Monico, Piccadilly-circus, who was found in her bedroom dead. The body had been lying by the fireplace for a fortnight. Dr. Fernandez Clarke said that a post-mortem examination revealed a big rent in the aorta, the result no doubt of a ruptured aneurism and in his opinion that was the cause of death.—Stephen Monico, jun., said the deceased had been in their service about nine months. Witness's brother gave her a fortnight's vacation to commence on Sunday, September 14th, and the room was not entered during the subsequent fortnight because the key could not be found. It was naturally assumed that she had gone for her holiday. and she should have returned on the very morning upon which she was found dead. Barmaids were allowed to keep their room doors locked, and in the absence of the key the servants would conclude that they were not to go in.—The jury returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence.9

Mary SHAW1

#2704, b. 1864, d. 1940
Last Edited=30 May 2019
Mary Pask née Shaw
(1864 - 1940)
Mary SHAW was born in 1864 in Virginia Water, Surrey. Her father was James Shaw, who at the time of her marriage was deceased.2,3,4
Mary married Henry PASK, son of Henry Frost PASK and Mary Ann PALMER, on 16 October 1882 in Trinity Church, St. Mary, Newington, London; The marriage was witnessed by Henry and Alice Pask.1,3 At the time of the birth of their son Henry in 1885, Mary PASK and Henry PASK lived at 59 Brisbane Street, Camberwell, London.5
In the census of 5 April 1891 in 34 Warrior Road, Lambeth, London, she was listed as aged 29 born in Virginia Water Berks, the wife of Henry PASK (a Cabinet Maker living with his wife Mary, daughter Elsie L. M., son Arthur G. J., and an elderly aunt Harriet MITCHELL, a widow, a retired Chair Caner aged 69, born in Southwark.)4
In the census of 31 March 1901 in 12 Ladywell Park, Lewisham, London, she was listed as Mary SHAW aged 39 born in Virginia Water, the wife of Leonard H. SHAW (a Cabinet Maker, living with his wife Mary, and children Arthur G. J., Grace M., Ada M., and Mercy M. The family were enumerated under the name of Leonard H. Obviously, they had taken Mary's maiden name. However why Henry called himself Leonard is not sure. Perhaps it was because he was a Shakespearian actor, and had changed his name. All other details except the surname were correct.)6
In the census of 2 April 1911 in 25 Kent House Road, Sydenham, Kent, she was listed as aged 50 born in Virginia Water Surrey, married 28 years with 13 children - 7 living and 6 dead, the wife of Henry PASK (a French Polisher, living with his wife Mary, and children Grace, Ada, Mercy, Cecil, and Clarence.)7,8 Mary was in a photograph taken in her latter years.9
Her husband, Henry, died on 14 February 1936 in 15 Lullington Road, Penge, Surrey, at the age of 81; at the home of his son. His occupation was a retired French Polisher.1,10,11
Mary died in 1940 in the Bromley registration district.12

Research Note: They had 14 children, although only 7 survived to maturity.
".. my grandfather was often out of work as a French Polisher, and also I might add a Shakespearian actor, both dubious occupations for that period of time, and he moved around as he got older and work got more difficult to come by. Indeed the family spent some time in the workhouse when my father was just a baby, where he caught bronchitis which plagued him all his life, so I suppose grandfather wanted to get work to spare the family having to endure this punishment again.13"

Research Note: Henry PASK and Mary SHAW are detailed in the Pask-Paske Blog titled Henry & Mary Pask née Shaw.14
