In the census of 2 April 1911 in 112 High Street, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, he was listed as an Errand Boy, aged 14 born in Lincoln, the son of Lucy ULYAT.³
Edwin served in World War I. He was attested on 10 December 1915, and mobilized on 25 July 1916. He was in the Royal Engineers, Railway Operating Division, Regimental Number 258040.⁴

Also listed was three servants.)³
