Last Edited=17 Dec 2016
Mary Pask née Light (1842-1912)
wife of Morgan Pask
Mary was in an undated photograph. Pat was told that the photograph was "Hollister's grandmother" which of course gives me the choice of 2.Pat has come to the conclusion that she is Mary Light on the grounds that I have no records or photographs at all of the older Maybreys whereas the photo of the Pask daughters, Charlotte & Ellen, shows that they were familiar with studio photographers like this one. So I think that the lady is likely to be their mother..2
Mary LIGHT was born in 1842 in Shirenewton, Monmouthshire. She was the daughter of Samuel Light.3,4,5
Mary married Morgan PASK, son of Isaac PASKE and Mary MORGAN, on 22 October 1864 in Newchurch Parish Church, Newchurch, Monmouthshire. She was a Spinster aged 23, residing at Park Wall. Her father was listed as Samuel Light, a Laborer. The marriage was witnessed by William Cwin? and Janey? Jones.6,1,5
In the census of 3 April 1881 in Mynyddbach, Shirenewton, Monmouthshire, she was listed as aged 39 born in Shirenewton, the wife of Morgan PASK (a General Labourer living with his wife Mary, and children Charlotte, Laura, Ellen, Emily, and "Fredrick.")3
In the census of 31 March 1901 in Mynyddbach, Shirenewton, Monmouthshire, she was listed as a Dress Maker, the wife of Morgan PASK; a General Labourer living with his wife Mary, and their son Frederick.4
Her husband, Morgan, died on 20 April 1909 in Mynyddbach, Shirenewton, Monmouthshire, at the age of 73.7,8,9
In the census of 2 April 1911 in Mynyddbach, Shirenewton, Monmouthshire, she was listed as aged 59 born in Monmouthshire, the widowed mother of Frederick PASK.10
Mary died in 1912 in the Pontypridd registration district.11

Isaac married Mary MORGAN on 16 November 1818 in Mathern, Monmouthshire. The marriage was witnessed by Thomas STEPHENS & Mary LEWIS [his sister].5,2,6
His wife's, Mary, death was registered in 1870 in the Chepstow registration district.7

Research Note: It is probable that Isaac died or disappeared between February 1841 and October 1841. His wife Mary was listed in the 1841-1861 census, without her husband. Their youngest son Henry was born in October 1841. There is no death listed in the GRO Index. This needs to be researched further.

Frederick died on 8 March 1938 in Llanbradach Colliery, Llanbradach, Glamorganshire.2,12
The inquest into his death was reported in the The Express, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorganshire, on 19 March 1938.13 It read:
ACCIDENTAL DEATH
INQUEST VERDICT ON CAERPHILLY MINER
At an inquest on Frederick Arthur Pask (59), colliery fireman, of Bloomfield-street, Caerphillv, who was fatally injured at the Llanbradach Colliery, the jury returned a verdict of "Accidental death" on Friday at Caerphilly.
David John Simon, a haulier said that when asked by Pask to take a message he left his horse standing attached to a full tram of coal. and when he returned three minutes later he found that the horse had moved about twelve yards and Pask was underneath the tram dead.
In answer to Mr. Madley, Inspector of Mines. Simons said that near where the accident occurred there was a pump which was on stop. The blast was giving off and making a noise which would stop Pask who was near bye, from hearing. The blast would also cause a cloud of dust in the atmosphere which would stop Pask from seeing. It was therefore possible that Pask could not hear the horse or see him coming along.
He (Simons) was very fond of his horse and it was possible that when he left it the horse followed the light and would go along at a good pace as he would be going through a swamp. Pask might not have heard the horse until he was on top of him.
Dr. Edward Savage said Pask died From a fracture of the base of the skull.
The Coroner (Mr. David Rees) said it was very likely that Pask went to try to stop the horse following its haulier and was knocked down.13

An account of his funeral was reported in The Express, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorganshire, on 19 March 1938.14 It read:
THE FUNERAL.
