George William & Ada Edith Pask née Platts
Wedding Photograph 17 August 1913
Ada Eliza PLATTS was born on 10 May 1889, in the Bethnal Green registration district.2,3,4,5 She was the daughter of Henry John PLATTS and Susan MITCHELL.2,5 In the census of 5 April 1891 in 98 Cyprus Street, Bethnal Green, London, she was listed as aged 1 born in Bethnal Green, the daughter of Henry PLATTS.5 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 98 Cyprus Street, Bethnal Green, London, she was listed as aged 11 born in Bethnal Green, the daughter of Henry PLATTS.6
Ada married George William PASK, son of Walter PASK and Rosetta RIXON, on 17 August 1913 in St. James The Great, Bethnal Green, London. She was a Spinster aged 24, a Christmas Card Maker, residing at 24 Connor Street. Her father was listed as Henry John PLATTS, a Boot Maker. The marriage was witnessed by Richard Charles JONES, and Susan Elizabeth PLATTS.7,8,2,9,10
Her husband, George, died on 12 October 1917 in Passchendaele, Ypres, Belgium, at the age of 28. The notification of George's death was followed by a telegram dated the 15th November 1917 stating 'report now received notifying wounded' and a letter the following day stating 'the first notification was incorrectly reported. Trusting this has not caused you any unnecessary pain. A further letter dated the 4th February 1918 basically stated 'sorry, we were right first time'. It's no wonder that, after this experience, his wife Ada became such a formidable lady. She single-handedly built up a successful business and moved from the East End into a big house in Sutton with servant's quarters (but no servants!!)2,11,12,13 Ada lived at 61 Station Road, West Wickham, Kent, until her death in 1974.2,14
Ada died on 27 April 1974 in Farnborough Hospital, Orpington, Kent, at the age of 84.2,3,14
